We Can Make a Difference.

Diverse lawyers refer to people from minority groups that are historically underrepresented in the legal profession. In 2019, the ABA reported that 85% of lawyers were White/Caucasian. Of the 15% minority lawyers, African-Americans accounted for 5%, Hispanics—5%, Asian—2%, Native Americans—1%, multi-racial—2%, and all other ethnic minorities less than 1%.

As our country becomes increasingly more diverse, the legal profession continues to lag behind. Increasing diversity is not meant to merely bring up the numbers of minorities in the legal industry, but promoting a culture of inclusion, tolerance, respect, and understanding of those that the legal profession serves.

IDEAL Washington (Inspiring Diversity in Education & Access in Law) seeks to make an impact in the community in the following ways:

1. Provide mentorship to undergraduate students that are interested in pursuing a legal education.
2. Work together with schools and organizations that serve minority youth to encourage and support their goals to pursue higher education.
3. Raise awareness of minority lawyers in the legal community to help inspire the next generation.

IDEAL envisions a future where the legal profession will more fully reflect the great diversity that is found in communities that it serves and represents.
