IDEAL(Inspiring Diversity in Education & Access in Law) is a volunteer organization that seeks to make an impact on the diversity of the legal community. Founded by a group of law students in 2019, they saw a need to inform, support, and inspire the rising generation of underrepresented minority youth who have a desire to pursue a legal career.
The legal industry continues to be non-diverse compared to many other professional services. While law firms are beginning to develop diversity initiatives to seek and retain minority lawyers, there is an absence of programs that seek to inform and support minority K-12 and undergrad students that may have an affinity for the legal profession. Our goal is to increase awareness of the legal industry to minority youth and provide mentorship for those who wish to pursue a legal education. Through these efforts, we hope to break through the consistent underrepresentation of minority groups in the legal community and help the rising generation of legal professionals reflect more closely the diverse population of our region.
